JCoSS Deputy Head to come from Haberdashers

JCoSS has announced the appointment of Patrick Moriarty as Deputy Headteacher starting from January 2010.

Moriarty, 43, joins JCoSS from Haberdashers’ Aske’s School for Girls in Elstree, where he has been the Head of the Sixth Form since 2003. He has previously taught at two other voluntary aided schools, including Latymer in Edmonton, which is widely regarded as one of the highest achieving state secondary schools in the country.

He will work alongside Headteacher, Jeremy Stowe-Lindner, to develop and manage the school’s curriculum and ensure the highest standards of student achievement. He will also take charge of creating and overseeing the school’s pastoral development system.

A graduate of St John’s College Oxford, King’s College London and Haberdashers’ Boys, Moriarty has taught Religious Education, Philosophy and English. He previously coordinated Haberdashers’ programme for gifted and talented students and has taken charge of the school’s Oxbridge applications process.

Commenting on the appointment, Jeremy Stowe-Lindner, says:

“Patrick brings with him an outstanding track record of achievement. Patrick’s ability to balance an outstanding curriculum offer with the nurturing of young people ensures that JCoSS will have a Deputy Headteacher who will advance JCoSS in both academic achievement and pastoral care. He brings particular experience of stretching the most gifted and talented students to make the very most of their abilities, which further strengthens JCoSS’s all-round offer.”

Patrick Moriary adds:

“The opportunity to join the JCoSS team was too good to miss. The challenge of helping develop any new school would be exciting enough. But JCoSS offers even more: a unique ethos, outstanding facilities and support of parents and governors with a commitment to a project which goes beyond the creation of a school to the transformation of the community. It is an honour to be involved.”

Patrick Moriarty is a former Chair of Governors of St Mary’s CE Primary School in Finchley. He currently lives in Watford and is married with six children.
