JCoSS names first Headteacher

The JCoSS Governors have announced the appointment of their first Headteacher.

Jeremy Stowe-Lindner – 35, currently Deputy Headteacher at Swakeleys Secondary School in Hillingdon – will take up his new post in the Autumn, but will be immediately involved in planning, in so far as his current job allows.

He has been appointed after an exhaustive global search spanning four continents and was chosen from a shortlist which included candidates from as far afield as America and New Zealand.

His current school, Swakeleys, was recently identified by the DCSF as one of London’s most improved schools.  In addition to his responsibilities as Deputy Head there, Stowe-Lindner currently teaches religious education, a subject for which the school received an outstanding grade in a recent Ofsted inspection.

Prior to joining Swakeleys, Stowe-Lindner held leadership positions in two Barnet schools, Copthall and Mill Hill County, where there were a large number of Jewish students. He holds an MBA in educational management from Leicester University, as well as an NPQH (National Professional Qualification for Headship) and qualified as History teacher.  Previously, he also worked with autistic children at the Richard Oastler Special School.

He is a member of Hendon United and has been deeply involved in the UK’s Jewish community.  He was a lay leader of the UJIA Active Partnership 2000 scheme, and helped set up twining arrangements between schools in the UK and Israel.  He is currently chair of the UJIA’s Social Responsibility Committee which coordinates social action across the community and works with all the main Jewish youth movements.  He is a trustee of JCORE and has lectured at Limmud.

He grew up in Leeds where he was a member of Street Lane Gardens Synagogue and went to Leeds Grammar School.   He was a chair of FZY in Leeds.

Commenting on the appointment, Vice-Chair of Governors, Mike Grabiner, who led the recruitment process, said:

“We are very lucky to have managed to retain the services of such an individual.  His record at Swakeleys is outstanding and his experience with the UJIA has given him an excellent understanding of the challenges of working in a cross-community environment.

“The Headteacher is crucial to the success of any new school and I have no doubt whatsoever, that Jeremy Stowe-Lindner shares the Governors’ vision of quality schooling and excellence for all and, more importantly, has the skills and experience necessary to deliver it.”

Mr Stowe-Lindner added:

“I am thrilled and honoured to have been given this unique opportunity.    JCoSS is an incredible project and, I believe, is central to the continuing vibrancy of the UK’s Jewish community.  But to achieve its goals, it must first offer a quality of education second to none with the very highest standard of academic results.  That is what I am determined to achieve.”

JCoSS opens in September 2010 and applications for its first intake of Year 7 pupils will need to be submitted by October 2009.  Prior to that, Stowe-Lindner will be hosting a number of meetings for potential parents and others to set out his vision for the school and answer questions.
