The Science museum comes to JCoSS

JCoSS has received notification from the Department of Education that our bid to become a Science Specialist College has been successful.

We have celebrated this event with staff and students by commencing JCoSS with a ‘Bubbles’ cross curriculum project. The students participated in an exciting series of activities which included a treasure hunt, a balloon launch, a BLP (Building Learning Power) activity, a presentation from the Science Museum, bubbles lessons from the English, Maths, Science and Jewish Education faculties and Rosh Hashanah celebrations.

Our Specialist Status enables us to incorporate numerous exciting Teaching and Learning opportunities throughout the curriculum and year for JCoSS students, students at our partnership schools (Akiva, Hadley Wood, Firth Manor, Livingstone and Woodhouse Sixth form College) and our wider community.

Upcoming events include:

  • Weekly Science club focussing on DNA incorporating Design and Technology skills
  • Science and Maths outreach at our partnership schools
  • Festive Lecture Series with Steve Marshall (science consultant from the local authority)
  • In service training for teachers from across the UK delivered by the Royal Society of Chemistry
  • In service training for teaching assistants from across the local authority on supporting science teaching and learning in secondary schools

Look out for further information on how to obtain tickets for the festive lecture series later this half term.

Our Science Specialism is going to offer a fantastic and varied series of events which is sure to be exciting, inspirational and above all enjoyable and we look forward to seeing you all there.
