Excellent GCSE Results for JCoSS

We are excited to announce another year of excellent GCSE results from our students, who have achieved highly both in the grades they have achieved and in the progress they have made.  In a year with new courses and grade structures to increase academic expectations, we are particularly proud to have sustained and even exceeded our previous outcomes.

Overall, 43% of grades achieved were at Grade A or A* (or the equivalent 7-9), and 88% were at Grades A*- C (or the equivalent 9-4). The familiar benchmark figure of the number of students achieving 5 or more GCSEs at Grades A*- C (9-4) including English and Maths was 85.5%, our highest score ever.

Including GCSE exams taken early last year, well over a quarter of students achieved at least 8 GCSEs at Grade A (7) or better, and nearly two-fifths achieved at least 5 at Grade A (7) or better.

A third of students achieved both Maths and English grades at Grade 7 or above, and in English more than one in ten scored a Grade 9, reserved for the top 2% of students nationally.  Nearly seven in ten achieved a strong pass (Grade 5 or above) in both subjects and nine in ten achieved at least a standard pass (Grade 4) in both subjects.

We rejoice at these excellent raw grades, and also at the huge achievements of many students who have far exceeded personal goals and school targets. Our Progress 8 “value added” score was our highest ever and shows that teaching at JCoSS added an average of 6 grades to every student, compared to national expectations.  In English, JCoSS added a whole extra grade on average to every student.

Among many outstanding individual performances are those of:
