Ofsted rates JCoSS as a good school, with an outstanding 6th Form and other excellent features
We are very pleased to announce that JCoSS has been awarded a ‘Good’ rating by Ofsted, with an ‘Outstanding’ 6th Form and other outstanding features. A special mention is given for the headteacher as an “exceptional leader”, with the “very able support” of the leadership team, and for the excellent work of the Learning Support Department and PSRP.
Jeremy Kosky, Chair of Governors commented ‘We are delighted that this Ofsted report has highlighted JCoSS’ many exceptional strengths, the huge support that we have from parents and the excellent outcomes and progress of our students. In particular, we are delighted that the 6th Form has been recognised as “outstanding”, given this is such a critical period of a student’s school career.’
The report notes that our inclusive ethos and values are “key factors in the school’s success”, with our aim to build Mensches being “the ‘heart beat’ of the school”. This ensures that “pupils behave very well and their personal development is good”.
The report recognises that ‘gifted and talented students are nurtured and supported to achieve the highest grades’; they performed “extremely well” in 2015, with assessment information indicating that the school is on course to achieve similarly high GCSE results in the future. The report also notes that ‘provision for students with a statement or an education, health and care plan is outstanding’.
Mr Kosky continued, ‘Given that the Ofsted framework significantly changed in September, holding schools to an even higher standard, we are all the more pleased that the achievements of JCoSS have been recognised. The report also gives helpful pointers on how we can build on the current strengths to ensure that our students achieve even more in the future. The Governing Body and the Senior Leadership Team are already taking these suggestions into account for future planning purposes.’
He concluded: ‘Coupled with our exceptional first set of GCSE results and progress data in August 2015, the outstanding 6th Form, and the integrity of our ethos, it is clear that in just five short years JCoSS has established itself as an excellent school and is continuing to go from strength to strength.’
