JCoSS went Mitzvah Day mad as part of the international day of social action. Mitzvah Day Mensches helped to organise a range of activities to help a number of causes. We collected boxes of stationery to go to communities in Eastern Europe and the former Soviet Union with World Jewish Relief. We also collected lots of toys for children at Great Ormond Street Hospital, thanks to the generosity of JCoSS parents. To go with their toys, student made ‘get well soon’ cards. Students also made cards and friendship bracelets for the impoverished community of Polotsk in Belarus. Fifteen JCoSS students also went to Livingstone Primary School to help their students with reading.
One of the Mitzvah Day Mensches said “Mitzvah Day was a great experience and opportunity to help others who aren’t as fortunate as us. JCoSS is a community that cares about Tikkun Olam (Repairing the World) and I am glad that we got to help such worthwhile causes on Mitzvah Day.”
WJR commented “We would like to extend a very big thank you to JCoSS for their fantastic efforts in collecting stationery for our Gifts in Kind Programme this Mitzvah Day. This stationery will be shortly shipped to the Former Soviet Union where they will be distributed to vulnerable communities living in poverty, in particular school children who require them the most. Your school’s generous contribution will make a very big difference – thank you!”
