Sad news regarding Mike Grabiner CBE

Dear Parents

I write with the sad news of the death of Mike Grabiner, the Chair of Governors who steered JCoSS through the process of opening as a school, and continued in that role until 2014.

Mike was truly a foundational influence on JCoSS, remaining for some years afterwards as a Trustee and then a Vice-President of JCoSS.  He brought vast experience from business and from high profile roles with the Jewish community to bear on his contribution to JCoSS.  His energy, vision and kindness profoundly shaped the ethos of the school and formed the character of its community.  His impact was huge – not least in appointing and mentoring my predecessor and myself as Headteacher, and leading the Governing Board through crucial decisions in our formative years.

The ethos and the success of the school owes so much to him: his astute judgment was always combined with thoughtfulness, consideration, humour and humanity: he embodied all the qualities of Menschlichkeit that we seek to instil in our students.  He had been ill for some time but the loss of such a fine mind and such a loyal and generous friend of the school at a comparatively young age is a huge loss.

He will be very much missed, and our deepest condolences are with Jane his wife and with the rest of the family, to whom we wish long life.  Baruch dayan ha’emet – blessed be the one true judge.

Yours sincerely

Patrick Moriarty

Headteacher, JCoSS
