A Science Spectacular at JCoSS

Thanks to our state-of-the art facilities, science specialist status and dedicated science lecture theatre, JCoSS was the obvious choice of location for the annual, coveted Festive Lecture Series, hosted by science consultant Steve Marshall.

Numerous experiments took place involving this year’s theme, ‘Earth, wind, fire and water’, including students being levitated in the air and watching a giant metal tube bursting with light and “dancing” to musical vibrations.

It was not only JCoSS students who enjoyed the benefits of the lectures: there were two evening performances for JCoSS parents and the local community, some of whom enjoyed it so much they came to both!  In addition, two of our local primary schools, Akiva and Livingstone, brought their Year 5 and 6 students. Feedback from all who came was overwhelming. Liz Papier, a Year 6 teacher at Akiva said, “It was wonderful for the children to be able to see science come alive. Their oohs and aahs were truly magical!”  JCoSS student, Max Mydat also commented ‘It was the highlight of my week’.

It was clear to see that Steve Marshall’s energy, enthusiasm and commitment to science ensured that all who participated left feeling inspired.
