Year 12 visit to Keats House

The AS English students enjoyed a visit to Keats House in Hampstead earlier this month. We were shown round by the educational officer, Linda Carey, who has an encyclopaedic knowledge of Keats’ life. The students were fascinated to learn, amongst other things, that Keats, who died tragically young, shared many of the concerns of young people today. He fell in love with the girl next door and was relieved to discover that she was no taller than him as he was only 5 foot tall! Though the wind was chilly, the sun was actually shining and we could imagine Keats being inspired by the lovely garden and nearby Hampstead Heath. The students also benefitted from a revision session with Linda on the Keats’ poetry that they are studying for their forthcoming exam. The only regret we had was that we couldn’t stay longer!
