An Interview with Mr Quinn

Mr Quinn joined JCoSS as Deputy Headteacher earlier this month.  We thought you would be interested to get to know him a little bit better…

What did you teach and what schools have you taught in?
My main subject areas are Computing and Business but I also teach Mathematics.  I have been in teaching for 20 years now, moving down from Glasgow in Scotland in 1992 to work at Roding Valley High School in Loughton.  From there, I was promoted to Head of ICT at Copthall School in Mill Hill, overseeing the management of the computer network in the building.  Following that, I worked at Greenford High School where I taught the first ICT A Level with considerable success and then moved to Goffs School in Cheshunt in 2001 to become Network Manager and then Faculty Leader.  Since 2005, I had been working at The Harefield Academy near the world famous Harefield Hospital and was first Assistant Principal then promoted to Vice Principal (Deputy Head).

Why did you want to come to JCoSS?
I had heard so many terrific things about it!  I had previously worked with Mrs Mawdsley at Harefield before she moved to JCoSS, so she kept me up to date with the school and I knew Mr Stowe-Lindner via working with him when he was Deputy Head at Swakeleys in Hillingdon.  Mr Moriarty had paid me a visit at Harefield to talk about various systems as JCoSS was developing, so already I had some idea about the amazing work going on there.  I visited in November 2011 and by lunchtime was “wowed” by the students and thought to myself that “I would really love to work here”.  I applied for the Deputy Headteacher post and was successful!

A bit about you..?
I have been married to Katrina for 13 years.  I met her when we both taught at Copthall School back in 1995.  We have two wonderful girls – Isla is 9 and Heather is 7.  We also have a cat called Molly.  Living with these four women certainly has it challenges and I am often outnumbered!  I am a big football fan.  Glasgow Celtic is my team although I also have affection for Partick Thistle (although not many people have heard of them!).  I enjoy playing golf and I am a massive Doctor Who fan.

What have you enjoyed so far about being at JCoSS?
Everyone – both staff and students are so friendly and welcoming.  I feel I have been here longer than just two weeks already (in a good way!).  I like where my office is, as it literally gives me a window onto all the many activities going on at JCoSS.
